Who we are
Spotless is made and operated by Anthony Kroeger, a sole trader in Australia ("Spotless", "we", "us"). You can contact us at support@spotlessmail.com.
Data that Spotless accesses from your Google account
When you connect a Gmail account, you choose to give Spotless access to:
- Your Gmail messages and settings (Google permission
gmail.modify): messages, threads, labels, and drafts, so you can read, organize, and send mail. This permission does not allow Spotless to delete mail permanently. - Your "Other contacts" (Google permission
contacts.other.readonly): the names and email addresses of people you have emailed, so Spotless can suggest recipients while you write. - Your email address, so Spotless can show which account is which.
How Spotless uses this data
Spotless uses your Google data only to provide the features of the app that you see: showing your mail, carrying out the actions you take (for example marking a conversation done, starring it, or sending a reply), finding mail, reminders, and suggesting recipients.
We do not:
- sell your data or transfer it to data brokers;
- use your data for advertising, including personalized or retargeted ads;
- use your data to determine credit-worthiness or for lending purposes;
- use your data to develop, improve, or train artificial intelligence or machine learning models;
- let any person read your mail.
Where your data is stored
- Your mail is stored in a local database inside the Spotless app container on your Mac. It is transferred directly between your Mac and Google over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection. We do not operate any server that receives, stores, or processes your mail or contacts.
- Your Google sign-in tokens are stored in the macOS Keychain on your Mac.
- Images and tracking pixels in emails are blocked by default, so senders cannot use them to see when you open a message.
Sharing
We do not share your Google data with anyone. Spotless itself does not send your Google data to us or to any third party.
Google API Services User Data Policy
Spotless's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs to any other app will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Keeping and deleting your data
- Spotless keeps a copy of your mail on your Mac for as long as your account is connected.
- When you sign out of an account in Spotless, the app deletes that account's mail from your Mac and asks Google to revoke Spotless's access.
- Deleting the Spotless app from your Mac deletes its local data.
- You can also remove Spotless's access at any time on your Google Account connections page.
Because we never hold a copy of your mail, there is nothing for us to delete on our side.
Purchases and licenses
When you buy Spotless, the payment is processed by Stripe, which acts as the merchant of record (the seller of record) through Link. Stripe collects your payment details under its own privacy policy; we never see your full card number. We receive and keep your name, email address, country, and purchase details, and we create a license key for you. When you activate Spotless on a Mac, we store the license key, a random identifier that the app creates for that Mac, and the activation date, so we can enforce the number of Macs per license and help you recover a lost license. We keep this information for as long as your license is valid, and as long as tax and accounting laws require.
Support emails
If you email us, we keep your message and our reply so we can help you. We use your email address only to answer you.
This website
This website does not use cookies, analytics, or advertising trackers. It is hosted by Cloudflare, which processes basic technical data, such as IP addresses, to deliver the site and protect it from abuse.
Crash reports
Spotless does not include any third-party analytics or crash reporting. If you choose to share analytics with app developers in macOS settings, Apple may send us anonymous crash reports. They do not contain your mail.
Your rights
You can ask us to access, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you (your purchase, license, and support information) by emailing support@spotlessmail.com. Depending on where you live, you may have further rights under laws such as the Australian Privacy Act 1988 or the GDPR, including the right to complain to your local privacy regulator.
Children
Spotless is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If we change how Spotless uses your data, we will update this page and the date at the top before the change takes effect. If a change affects how Spotless uses your Google data, we will tell you in the app first.
